William Nakamura, DMA, is a freelance tubist who has been living and working in Southern California since 2017. In that time, he has established himself as a versatile and virtuosic musician, playing in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, San Luis Obispo Symphony, San Luis Obispo Master Chorale, premiering a work for solo tuba and orchestra under the baton of David Amos, as well as playing in musicals, contemporary music ensembles, video game soundtracks, his two brass quintets, and more.

A strong proponent of accessibility in the arts, William has volunteered his time with the YOLA program in Los Angeles, obtained grant funding for and performed free educational brass quintet performances throughout San Diego County, and most recently taught at the International Baja Brass Festival. He currently coaches four high schools in the San Diego area and maintains a private studio.

William has obtained degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory, University of California, Los Angeles, and most recently the University of Southern California, where his DMA emphasized Philosophy of Music Teaching and Learning, instrumental conducting, and music theory. He has studied with Jim Self, Norm Pearson, Doug Tornquist, Aubrey Foard, Dennis Nulty, and Ron Bishop.
